ALL LIGHT, EVERYWHERE

ART OF IMPACT

US 2021, 109 min Director THEO ANTHONY
Winner of a Special Jury Award for Nonfiction Experimentation at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, the captivating and immersive new film from director Theo Anthony reflects upon the shared histories of surveillance video, weaponry, and policing. Just as he did in his 2016 feature Rat Film which used the rodent population of Baltimore to explore gentrification, Anthony finds an original and provocative entry point (Axon’s police bodycams) to examine larger ideas like privacy, justice, and perception, eventually linking the shared histories of both the camera and the gun. With acute precision and in-depth research, this mesmerizing film essay probes the biases in the camera lens and the power the viewer has upon what they’re observing. Featuring a hypnotic score by Dan Deacon and stunning cinematography, All Light, Everywhere solidifies Theo Anthony’s place as one of the most exciting and innovative new voices to emerge in nonfiction cinema.
