PIANO TO ZANSKAR
WONDERLANDS
UK 2018, 86 min Director MICHAL SULIMA
Opening on the vast and awesome landscape of the Himalayas, Piano to Zanskar is a journey in every sense of the word. Follow 65-year-old piano tuner Desmond “Gentle” O’Keefe, his young assistants Anna and Harald, a team of local Sherpas, and various yaks and ponies, as they travel across precarious and steep mountain paths beyond the Trans-Himalayan highway to reach the majestic, remote village of Lingshed and deliver a promised piano to the town. Shot in a hypnotic and meditative style that honors the odyssey as much as the destination, this beautiful document of a noble quest also ponders the increasing impact of modernity on ancient ways of life and the inevitable progression of time.
