RADIOGRAPH OF A FAMILY
WONDERLANDS
Iran/Norway/Switzerland 2020, 80 min Director FIROUZEH KHOSROVANI
Winner of Best Feature Documentary at the 2020 IDFA Documentary Film Festival, Radiograph of a Family is Firouzeh Khosrovani’s beautifully crafted portrait of her own Iranian family—specifically her parents, whose relationship is shaken by the social forces brought on by the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Under the new government, Khosrovani’s mother experiences the blossoming of her religious identity and a political awakening; meanwhile, her progressively secular father finds his world under threat and his pursuits of such personal pleasures as Bach and wine to no longer be welcome in his home. Khosrovani’s lyrical approach includes the use of stylized shots of the family home interspersed with iconic archival footage and family photographs and videos. The result is a delicately balanced, yet powerful, exploration of what divides her parents, the intimate battleground of the home, and the shrinking space for the love that still keeps them together. In French and Persian with English subtitles
