For the third film in his wolf trilogy, after The Valley of the Wolves (DocLands 2018) and Wolf Walk, French director Jean-Michel Bertrand once again transforms the simple nature documentary into a philosophical and sociological reflection on our ever-changing world. In Living With Wolves he accomplishes something very different from the previous films, here centering the relationship between wolves and other mountain inhabitants, particularly people. Filming for more than a year and a half, Bertrand observes these marvelous creatures in their natural environment from his cabin in the Hautes-Alpes, as well as giving voice to shepherds, hunters, and farmers offering a wide range of discussion on wildlife preservation and the question of a growing wolf population. What emerges is a message of hope about how humans can live peacefully with nature.
