Filmmaker-musician Ellen van den Honert takes us on a sublime cinematic journey around the world to discover the role of artists in wilderness conservation, artists who understand how profoundly beauty affects us—and the power it holds to spur us on to fight for what we know and love. Without early artists exploring Yellowstone National Park, there may never have been national parks, and without the idea of national parks being ignited there, there might never have been the concept of conservation early enough to make a difference within our lifetimes. While science hits us head-on with facts and statistics which can become burdensome, a message delivered poetically through words or images can envelop us as we begin to perceive our intimate—and vital—relationship with nature. DIRECTOR
ELLEN VAN DEN HONERT holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Amsterdam. She has worked internationally as a music teacher, project manager, and entrepreneur, while also managing a career as a songwriter and performing artist, successfully releasing the critical acclaimed albums, Breath of the Soul (2006), and Hummingville (2010). In 2015, Ellen established the Wild About Music Foundation dedicated to promoting the synergy of art and conservation. This led to the production of her first feature-length documentary, There Is A Place On Earth, exploring the role of artists in wilderness conservation on a beautiful and poetic journey around the world.
